Must-visit sights in the Netherlands

If you're planning a trip to the Netherlands, it's only right that you pay some attention to the country's many great cities and towns, which you can visit at your own pace on a rented car from any city in the Netherlands. But if you're not sure where to start, here are a few of tourists' favorites:

Rotterdam

Rotterdam is a great city to visit. It's got the best museums in the Netherlands, some of which are housed in buildings designed by Rem Koolhaas, Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid. The architecture isn't all that's impressive though; Rotterdam also has plenty of excellent restaurants serving up everything from Michelin-starred French cuisine to traditional Dutch food (including their famous fries). If you're looking for somewhere different to stay while you're here then check out our list of hotels with rooms from just EUR50 per night!

If you're looking to spend a few days in Rotterdam, then why not also visit the surrounding areas? From Delft to Gouda, Amsterdam is just an hour away by train and The Hague is only 40 minutes away.

Eindhoven

Eindhoven is a city in the south of the Netherlands, known for its technology and design industries. It's a great place to visit if you're interested in art, design and architecture--the Design Academy has been based there since 1984. Eindhoven also has a lively nightlife scene with many bars and clubs located around its main square, Marktplein.

If you're looking for something to do, visit the Philips Electronics museum or take a stroll through the DAF car factory. There are also several parks in Eindhoven where you can relax and enjoy some green space. The city is also home to many festivals throughout the year, including an annual beer festival in September called Heineken Music Hall.

Utrecht

Utrecht is a beautiful city, and it's the fourth largest city in the Netherlands. It's famous for its canals and bridges. There are several museums here that you must visit if you're interested in art or history. The Dom Tower (cathedral) is also worth seeing if you have time! We recommend visiting Utrecht because it has so much history behind it and there are many things to do here for everyone from families with kids to couples looking for romantic getaways!

Utrecht is a great city to visit if you enjoy museums and art galleries. There are several here that I recommend visiting, including the Museum of Fine Arts and Utrecht Art Supply. The Dom Tower (cathedral) is also worth seeing if you have time! I highly recommend visiting Utrecht because it has so much history behind it and there are many things to do here for everyone from families with kids to couples looking for romantic getaways!

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a great city to visit providing various comfortable hotels and hostels for any budget and taste. It's one of the most popular cities in Europe, and it's easy to see why: Amsterdam has everything you could want out of a weekend trip or romantic getaway.

There are plenty of things to do in Amsterdam--from museums to parks and more--but if you're looking for something specific, here are some suggestions:

  • Take a canal tour
  • Visit the Van Gogh Museum and other art museums
  • Go to the Anne Frank House
  • Eat at a pancake house

The Hague (Den Haag)

The Hague is the capital of the Netherlands and home to some of its most important institutions, including the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. The city is also a great place to visit on its own merit, with plenty of history, culture and excellent food options throughout its streets.

The Hofvijver (Court Lake) is one of The Hague's most popular attractions--and for good reason! It's an ideal spot for strolling around or eating lunch on one of its many benches. In addition to being beautiful to look at, this lake has a rich history: during World War II it was used as an air raid shelter by residents who lived nearby; today visitors can see evidence from those days around them when they walk along its edge or ride boats across it.

Maastricht

Maastricht is a city in the south of the Netherlands, and it's known for its beautiful old town. The center of Maastricht is surrounded by canals, which makes it easy to explore on foot or by bike. You'll find lots of shopping streets, including Heuvelstraat and Vrijthofstraat.

The main attraction here is St. Servatius Church (Sint-Servaasbasiliek), an 11th century Romanesque church built on top of Roman ruins from around 300 AD! It's also worth visiting Universiteitsmuseum Deogratias Casier (University Museum Deogratias Casier) where they host regular art exhibitions as well as other cultural events throughout the year.

Groningen

Groningen is the capital of the province of Groningen, and it's also a city in the Netherlands. Groningen is known for its student population, which can be seen by its many universities and colleges. It's also home to one of Europe's largest football museums!

The Netherlands is great, but be sure to check out these cities and towns

The Netherlands is a beautiful country, and it's great to visit. But if you only have time for one city or town, here are some suggestions:

  • Amsterdam: This city has plenty of history and culture--and it's also where many people start their trip to the Netherlands. The Anne Frank House is one of Amsterdam's most popular attractions; it tells the story of how she hid from Nazis during World War II with her family in an attic above her father' s office building (which was located on Prinsengracht 263). You can also visit museums like Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum, where you'll find paintings by those artists as well as others who lived in Amsterdam at that time period. If you want more adventure than just walking around looking at art pieces though.
  • Rotterdam: .you could try taking part in some activities such as kayaking at Kinderdijk Ecomuseum or cycling along one of many bike paths throughout Rotterdam! Or maybe just eating some delicious food while enjoying views over its famous river Maas? Either way works!

The Netherlands is a great country with lots of sights and things to do. We hope this list has helped you plan your next trip to the Netherlands!
